Experiment #08
Wobble bass
Let an LFO turn one long note into a rhythm.
A fast LFO on cutoff turns sustain into groove — the dubstep / DnB wobble idea in miniature.
Promise: “I can make a patch move on its own.”
Experiment #08
Wobble bass
Let an LFO turn one long note into a rhythm.
- 1.Hold one low note with HOLD. You should hear a rhythmic wah already.
- 2.Turn LFO RATE from slow to fast — tempo of the wobble is just a rate knob.
- 3.Ease LFO DEPTH down to 20% for a subtle pulse; crank it for a hard chop.
- 4.Try the same idea later on your gear by routing an LFO to filter cutoff.
You should hear…
One held note pulsing open and closed — a rhythm with no sequencer.
Doesn’t sound right?
Nothing moving? LFO DEPTH is at zero. Too subtle? Lower the base CUTOFF so the LFO has room to open it.
Try it on your gear
- Hydrasynth DeluxeLFO → Filter cutoff in the mod matrix
- SH-01ALFO to VCF amount
- TB-3No free LFO — automate cutoff by hand or in a DAW
Why it sounds like that
An LFO is a slow oscillator used as a control voltage. Point it at cutoff and the filter becomes a rhythmic instrument.
