Experiment #07
Acid squelch
Recreate the classic resonant filter-envelope bass.
Low cutoff, high resonance, punchy filter envelope, short amp — play low notes and twist cutoff by hand.
Promise: “I can write an acid line shape.”
Experiment #07
Acid squelch
Recreate the classic resonant filter-envelope bass.
- 1.Load this recipe (already set). Play staccato notes around C2.
- 2.While playing, twist CUTOFF slowly — that live tweak is half the sound.
- 3.Raise FILTER ENV if the vowel isn’t biting hard enough.
- 4.Drop SUSTAIN and shorten DECAY for a snappier 303-style hit.
You should hear…
Short, rubbery notes with a vocal “nyow” as the filter falls. Changing cutoff mid-riff rewrites the accent.
Doesn’t sound right?
Too thin? Open CUTOFF a little. Too polite? Raise RESO and FILTER ENV. Too loud? High resonance boosts peaks — ease LEVEL.
Try it on your gear
- TB-3Accent + slide + cutoff — the real-world lab
- SH-01AENV MOD amount into the filter
- Hydrasynth DeluxeFilter ENV depth + resonance
Why it sounds like that
The filter envelope opens cutoff on each note, then snaps shut. Resonance turns that motion into a vowel. Together they invent acid without needing a special oscillator.
