Experiment #06
Slow pad
Make a note swell in and breathe after you let go.
Long attack, high sustain, long release, plus a slow LFO on cutoff — the classic evolving pad.
Promise: “I can write a pad that feels alive.”
Experiment #06
Slow pad
Make a note swell in and breathe after you let go.
- 1.Hold a chord-friendly note and wait — the attack should take over a second to arrive.
- 2.Let go and listen to the RELEASE hang in the air.
- 3.Raise LFO DEPTH a little so cutoff breathes slowly.
- 4.Shorten ATTACK to hear how quickly the pad becomes a lead.
You should hear…
A soft swell in, a steady body while held, and a long fade after release — with a gentle wah breathing underneath.
Doesn’t sound right?
Notes start abruptly? ATTACK is too short. No afterglow? RELEASE is near zero.
Try it on your gear
- Hydrasynth DeluxeLong amp ENV + LFO → filter
- SH-01ALong A/R; LFO to VCF
- OSCarDual filter + slow LFO for movement
Why it sounds like that
Pads are mostly envelope shape plus slow modulation. The wave can stay simple; time does the storytelling.
