Experiment #02
Four colours
Keep pitch fixed and change only the waveform.
Sine, triangle, square and saw on one note — the harmonic recipe that filters love to carve.
Promise: “I can choose a wave on purpose.”
Experiment #02
Four colours
Keep pitch fixed and change only the waveform.
- 1.Hold one note with HOLD on so the pitch never moves.
- 2.Select SINE. Notice how soft and pure it is.
- 3.Step to TRIANGLE, then SQUARE, then SAW. Listen for brightness.
- 4.Park on SAW — that is the usual starting colour for filter work.
You should hear…
Sine almost whistles; triangle is mellow; square sounds hollow; saw is the brightest buzz.
Doesn’t sound right?
Everything dull? Open CUTOFF fully right before comparing waves.

Why it sounds like that
Non-sine waves are stacks of harmonics. More harmonics mean more material for a filter to remove — that is why subtractive patches favour saws.
